This a mid-20th Century British topcoat, made from grey-green gabardine wool. The topcoat was a lighter-weight alternative to an overcoat and was worn to both keep the wearer warm and dry. The gabardine weave was chosen for topcoats as it offered a measure of resistance to rain.
Size - approx. 42: Chest (measured pit to pit) = 24inches/Shoulders = 20 inches/Sleeves = 23.5 inches/Length = 45 inches. The coat is estimated as a size 42 as this allows 6 inches additional room on the chest as it was designed to be worn loosely over a three-piece suit.
Condition: FairThe coat has a hole on the front (see photos), requires cleaning and would benefit from some TLC.
