In the late 1940s and early 1950s, the UK saw the development of a fashion known as Neo-Edwardian style. In harking back to the Edwardian era, there was a fashion for decorative waistcoats that were worn to bring some decoration to the wearer’s suit. The style then spread to working class youths who developed the ‘Teddy Boy’ look which saw decorative waistcoats reach a new, youthful, market. The fashion for contrasting waistcoats continued into the 1960s.
