Here is a rare example of a late 1950s/early 1960s British ‘Ivy Style’ lightweight summer jacket, made for the British menswear shop Dunn & Co. During this period, inspired by American films and TV, the American ‘Ivy League’ look of patch pocket jackets, with narrow lapels and swollen seams, became increasingly popular in the UK. The style for ‘sack coats’, in which the jacket is constructed without a darted front, made for a more relaxed fit, allowing movement, while the lack of a full lining made the jackets comfortable to wear for dancing. During the 1960s the style became increasingly popular on the UK’s ‘Mod’ scene. This jacket even has plastic buttons which can be unscrewed when the jacket is being cleaned.
Size: Jacket size approx. 42/44 – Chest (measured pit to pit) = 23 inches/Shoulders = 18.5 inches/Sleeve = 24.5 inches/Length = 29 inches.
Condition: Very Good (the jacket has hardly, if ever, been worn).
