This is a 1960s double-breasted overcoat, designed by Hardy Amies for the Hepworths brand. His designs for Hepworths offered style and elegance to what was a mainstream clothing brand. Amies was a legendary figure in the British fashion industry who, in 1964, wrote a style guidebook, ABC of Men's Fashion, which remains a favourite among menswear enthusiasts and offered the opening advice: “A man should look as if he had bought his clothes with intelligence, put them on with care, and then forgotten all about them.” With its breast pocket and distinctive rear box pleat (instead of a vent), it guarantees you will never bump into someone wearing the same coat!
