Here we have three mid-20th Century rayon cravats made by the legendary British brand Tootal.  We have chosen each set to cravats to give you a selection of patterns and colours. All three cravats in this selection have the open neckband that was the original style used when Tootal starting producing cravats in the 1930s. Tootal was one of the most notable British cotton and rayon manufacturers of the 20th Century. Their prolific scientists were responsible for developing and refining crease-resistant, colour-fast cottons and luxuriously soft rayon fabrics. The results of their endeavours were fabrics which offer high-quality products to the mass market. Tootal’s fabrics were exported worldwide and their patented processes for treating fibres were used under licence to produce fine fabrics.  In the menswear world, Tootal’s ties, scarves and cravats dominated the marketplace due to their ability to resist creases and the ease with which they could be washed. In addition, Tootal didn’t just rely on its fabrics but also excelled in the colours and patterns they offered. Every colour and every imaginable design were available. Paisley patterns were a favourite, in particular their ‘art deco’ inspired reinterpretations of the style. There were also polka-dots (like the green cravat here), stripes, abstract patterns, gothic swirls and solid colours. This range of colours and styles means Tootal offered a cravat for every possible outfit. The result of the variety of colours and styles is a thriving collectors market for vintage Tootal products.
